In a surprising twist, the very stingy accountants at BU recently paid for my entire program to go to Melbourne for 4 days to “study culture.” I don’t know if the trip was as educational as BU would like to believe, but I certainly had a great time. On our first night in town, I won front-row tickets to Wicked. On the second night, I watched a parade of penguins come waddling out of the sea on nearby Phillip Island. The third day of the trip was spent at the Old Melbourne Gaol, where I learned way too much about death and torture. On the last day, I went to the Australian Center for Moving Images, which was running an exhibition on set design. An entire set from Australia was reconstructed in the museum, but sadly photography was not allowed. Overall, I’d say it was a pretty enjoyable free vacation. Thanks, BU!
