The Royal Botanic Gardens are free and open every day. We saw tons of people picnicking on the lawns and at the edges of the fountains and ponds. It’s also the site of Government House (the building that looks suspiciously like a French chateau), which was the Australian governor’s mansion until about 1999. We took a free tour of the inside, but there were no photos allowed because of all the oil paintings and hand-painted walls and ceilings. (Click the photo for more, as always.)
