23 April 2009Stupidest Teen Movie Ideas Young and dumb and full of…. New teen “comedy” Fired Up is based on a novel premise - two bonehead footballers go to cheerleader camp, so they can study and learn more about the emotional depths of platonic female friends. OK, so only the first half of that synopsis was true, and it leads Fired Up upon a typically unbelievable procession of...

Best. Story. Ever.
Picture this: I’m at the Sydney Royal Easter Show walking around the livestock yards when a horse and its rider pull up beside me.  I think nothing of it until the horse starts nudging me and snorting at me the way horses sometimes do.  I try stepping to the side, but the horse follows me.  I cast a few questioning glances at the rider, who was quite handsome and arrayed in a sharp green...

Top 10 Disney Movies Before you start throwing Mickey Mouse ears at us, be aware that the following supercalifragilisticexpialidocious list is dedicated to live-action Disney movies. Repeat: live-action Disney. While some of the inclusions may feature moments of animation, these ten Disney rippers are predominently made up of cavorting outside of a cartoon frame. So, Tinkerbell, let us...

Empireonline.com.au
If you were wondering, no, you cannot view this website in America.  Due to some licensing agreement or something, you will only be able to see the UK website, on which my features do not appear.  I will post the text from my articles here, though.  (I apologize in advance for the swearing - it’s just their style.)

Behold, my first official Empire feature.
20 March 2009The Spies Who Loved Undercover - and under the sheets At the double-crossing heart of cool caper Duplicity (which hit our cinemas this week), Julia Roberts and Clive Owen play spies in love. Well, spies who try to love but find their professional distrust getting in the way. This emotional espionage inspired Empire to pay tribute to other secret agent affairs of the...

I have earned my first byline at Empire!
(That means my name appeared on a feature I wrote for the website.) More details soon. Apparently American computers do not want to view Australian websites.

Spring Break: The Reader's Digest Version
Sunday: Bridget and her friends wake me with their obnoxiously loud breakfast chatter.  I pack for my trip, have breakfast, watch bad morning television before going to the airport.  The flight from Sydney to Ballina lasts about an hour.  No free food, no free drinks.  Not even water.  You suck, Virgin Blue.  It turns out that Ballina is about a half-hour drive from Byron Bay.  The shuttle costs...

Talk about once-in-a-lifetime.
The field trip for my Aboriginal culture module was possibly the best 6 hours of my trip so far.  After meeting at the huge fountain in Hyde Park, my Aboriginal teacher, Jennifer Newman, led the class to the Art Gallery of New South Wales to view two exhibits on Aboriginal art.  We then walked to the Royal Botanic Gardens to see an exhibit which contained plants that the Aboriginals would have...

This post is completely unrelated to study abroad.
I’ve been promoted at Campus Information!  When I return to campus, I will be a Senior Communications Assistant.  That means I will train new employees and supervise all the office projects.  I also got a $1 raise, which means I will be making over $10/hour!

I almost died. Well, not really, but you know how...
Sometime before Australia Day, I was bit by an unseen something that I initially believed was just a mosquito.  Then, on the 25th, Tim, Brendon and I were walking to Paddington (for no apparent reason, I might add) when I noticed that my ankle really, really, really hurt. No, seriously.  It really hurt. Of course, Tim and Brendon just made fun of me the whole time, so I just tried my best to...
